Hello medical students, residents and fellows!
Congratulations to all our medical student colleagues who have recently matched in psychiatry! We are thrilled to have you, and hope to welcome you soon into the even cooler club of child and adolescent psychiatry! Please read on for updates on our work, including the continuation of our peer mentorship program - a great opportunity to take advantage of as you think ahead to next career steps, whether you’re a medical student, general resident, or CAP fellow. We hope to see you at one of our upcoming monthly meetings, career development forum sessions, or annual meeting events!
It was recently announced that the annual meeting will be virtual - while of course we’d love to see you all in person, we also know that the virtual format has big advantages for access for trainees, so we hope you’re able to take advantage of this.
Best,
Alissa Hemke and Cordelia Ross
Co-chairs of AACAP’s Committee on Medical Students and Residents

AACAP MSR Peer Mentorship Program
Interested in making connections, meeting a mentor, getting your questions answered, and hearing career stories from people in our field? The AACAP MSR Peer Mentorship Program is a buddy system that pairs a senior trainee or early career psychiatrist with a junior based on interests! We are always excited to have people join this lovely family, so sign up to be a MENTOR or a MENTEE today!
Mentor-Mentee Spotlight
Mentor: Shavon Moore, UCSD, CAP-I
Mentee: Cara Popeski, U. Arizona Tuscon, Class of 2022
Dr. Moore, Co-Chief Fellow of the UCSD Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship, with expertise in adolescent psychiatry, child welfare, and equity in systems of care, was matched with student doctor Cara Popeski. Cara sought a peer mentor who was able to connect her to potential away rotation opportunities in order to learn more about her future career, and Dr. Moore was able to help make this happen and assist Cara in securing a rotation opportunity at UCSD! We look forward to following their peer mentorship journey!
