Newsletter September 2021

Hello medical students, residents and fellows!

We hope that application season is treating you well, and encourage you to check out our recent panel discussion on applying and sign up for the Peer Mentorship Network if you have more questions.

We also hope to see many of you at various MSR events during this year’s annual meeting- again virtual, which as much as we’re craving in-person contact, is also a huge benefit for trainees. Last year we broke records with the number of trainee attendees- let’s do it again! And as always, please join us for our monthly MSR committee calls!

Warmly,
Alissa Hemke and Cordelia Ross

Mentor-Mentee Spotlight

"As an international medical graduate looking for a career in child and adolescent psychiatry, my options were limited. I wasn't familiar with the importance of mentorship in medical training before I came across the Peer mentorship program. My mentor, Dr Abhishek Bala, was quick to answer all my questions [and he has since helped] me with research projects and my personal statement. [It has helped] me curate my application to get the best results in the upcoming match, for which I am grateful."

Vaishalee Namdev, MD

International medical graduate, 2022 psychiatry applicant

“The Peer Mentorship program provides a great opportunity for those interested in engaging with a diverse group of medical students and residents. Through this program, I have become more aware of the current issues in academia and feel more confident in advocating for these talented learners. It is truly an honor to exchange stories with my mentees. Forming relationships with these enthusiastic, intelligent, and resilient individuals has been one of the most fulfilling and inspiring experiences in AACAP.”

CAP-II Fellow, Central Michigan University
